In 2017, Gunawan Maryanto won the Best Leading Actor award at the Usmar Ismail Awards for his role as Widji Thukul in the film Istirahatlah Kata-kata (Solo, Solitude). In 2020, he won the Citra Award for Best Leading Actor for his role as Siman in the film Hiruk-Pikuk si Al-Kisah (The Science of Fictions).
