The film premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as one of the 22 films in the competition, and won the extra-special 60th anniversary prize. In 2006, the Milwaukie, Oregon, native was spotted and cast as the lead in director Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park while auditioning to be a skateboarding extra.[citation neede...
